APPLICATIONS OF GENERATIVE ADVERSARIAL NETWORKS IN HEALTHCARE

About the Seminar:

As the field of deep learning is witnessing its golden era by showing breakthrough results in various fields, healthcare industry recently started to show an interest in deep learning based applications. The unsupervised nature of deep learning methods offers an exciting opportunity for healthcare applications since they require significantly less domain knowledge and human effort comparing to traditional machine learning methods. Given that healthcare providers generate an immense amount of unique and heterogenous data every day, deep learning offers itself as a practical but powerful solution. Deep learning applications in healthcare ranges from prediction of seizures to cardiac arrests, drug discovery to clinical decision making and analysis of health records. In this talk, we will go through a survey of recent state-of-the-art research in the intersection of generative adversarial networks and healthcare.

About the Speaker:

Pinar Yanardag Delul is establishing a new lab at Bogazici University, Department of Computer Engineering as a part of TUBITAK 2232 program with a focus of AI in Healthcare. She completed her postdoc at MIT Media Lab and PhD at Purdue University, Department of Computer Science. Her research is published at top machine learning conferences such as KDD and NIPS, and extensively covered by the media including Time, WSJ, The Guardian and NPR.
